What is Artificial Intelligence?

Artificial Intelligence or AI is a technology that gives robots or computers the ability to act and think like humans. Humans have the ability to learn from experience. Machines with AI can do the same. We call it machine learning. Neural networks are a prime example of machine learning.

History of Artificial Intelligence

John McCarthy (1927–2011), an American computer scientist, first used the term 'artificial intelligence'. In fact, he was one of the founders of artificial intelligence. McCarthy received the Turing Award for his contributions to the subject of artificial intelligence.

(1) Reactive Machines – These machines can react to various conditions. A prime example of this is the Deep Blue program which was developed by IBM. This program was used in chess. Such machines lack memory. They work according to the data already fed. It analyzes all possible alternatives and selects the best one.

(2) Limited memory - These AI systems are able to use past experiences to predict the future. A good example of this could be self-driving cars. Such cars have a decision-making system. These cars use previously stored data to change lanes, take turns, and adjust speed according to traffic.

(3) Mental Capability - These are machines that are capable of understanding human feelings, sensations, and desires. They are very intelligent. However, this type of AI does not yet exist. So the concept is completely imaginary.

(4) Self-awareness - This is the highest and most sophisticated level of Artificial Intelligence. Such systems have a sense of self. Furthermore, they possess human qualities such as awareness, consciousness, and sentience. Obviously, such technology has yet to exist. If this technology develops then it is possible that it will become a challenge for human existence.
